Roaming charges represent a significant proportion of many mobile phone bills. It is not unusual for this to account for 40% of total mobile costs during the busy periods. Outbound roaming charges are far higher than inbound and can account for 80% of these overall costs.

How does it work?

Simply send an SMS message - containing the number you want to call - to the CallBack number (the GSM gateway number in the PBX). CallBack automatically dials the requested number and your mobile number simultaneously, and connects the two calls. You are only charged for the SMS message and incoming call based on a roaming tariff, which is always cheaper than an outgoing call.

An alternative method is to dial the number for the PBX GSM gateway, let it ring once and hang up. The unit will call you back straight away and when you answer the incoming call you will be offered the option of entering a number. Simply dial the number of the person you want to call and NetStar will connect you. This way you are only charged for an incoming roaming call - giving you even greater savings!

How can I save even more money with RV?

Using the callback feature you can save even more money. Imagine you are abroad & you need to call home. From your mobile phone, simply send an SMS message with the number you want to call and, for example, your hotel room phone number to the CallBack number (the GSM gateway number in the PBX). CallBack automatically dials the requested number and your hotel room phone number simultaneously, and connects the two calls. You are only charged for the SMS message. The call cost over VoIP technology is even cheaper than the cost for an incoming call when roaming.

Without doubt emerging technologies and the recent rulings by Ofcom have gone some way to help reduce these costs, but roaming charges will continue to make up a large percentage of some companies mobile costs.
